“THE CRETANS OF OUR NEIGHBOURHOOD”

The documentary was started by Bülent Arınlı, who himself was of Crete origin, and was completed in memory of him following his death; the theme of the documentary covers the Cretan immigrants settled in Bodrum since the end of 1850s and  especially after the foundation of the Republic during the exhange movement, and the immigrants from Bodrum who went to Iraklion (Kandiya) province of Crete.

Relationship between the state and its citizens is discussed in the documentary through non-Muslim foundations, which has been a highly debatable subject in Turkey. The story of the state’s seizure of non-Muslim foundations’ properties with a legal application started in 1974 is told.
